As a class we will go over the practice review quiz you were assigned to do on page 197. We will review key terms, concepts, and computations dealing with FRACTIONS. The test on this chapter is scheduled for Monday. To further prepare for this besides coming to me and doing the daily homework, will be to check out classzone.com and do the test online. BUT feel free to contact me through the blog as I will check it out throughout the weekend if you do have questions on fractions.

We will also go over the POD from yesterday.

Homework: Study for the chapter 4 test on Monday and POD.

Good Thursday morning,

Oh happy day- Surprise- it is a 1/2 day for you today! But we TEACHERS will be here until the wee hours of the evening- oh boo hoo.........

Anyways, because of YOUR shortened day, the time is cut in half (get it - half and we are working on fractions!!!!), we will go over the POD from Wednesday and onto the quiz corrections and signatures and then onto the text homework if time allows. But none the less, we will go over this on Friday if time slips away too fast.

For homework tonight: there is NONE from the book and No POD! Oh happy day for you once again...

The chuckle for the Day: What is the difference between a new penny and an old quarter?
24 cents!!! Hee Hee Hee....

Enjoy the extra time off from school,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

Good TUESDAY morning,
Welcome back. Hope you all had a great long weekend for the second week in a row.

In math class, we are off with Fractions again. You never can get enough of FRACTIONS. After a quick review, we will move on with comparing and ordering fractions. What are the particulars you need to know for this, what does comparing mean, and when would you use this?

Homework( classwork) : Pages 183-184 # 2, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 20, 22, 30, 36, 37, 38-48 all. This seems like a huge amount, but breathe easy, it is fairly simple and you will have a great deal of class time to complete.

The POD:( hard copies are located as you walk in the classroom)
The number 400 is equivalent to which of the following:
a. 5^2 . 2^4

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!!!

We did it! We got here..... the end of the week. Even with this week being short due to a snowday on Monday, it felt like an eternity to the end for me, you? And before we forget and come in on this Monday, don't. Monday is Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Onto Math: In class today we will be looking over the binders for the quarter. The class will tune into classzone.com on chapter 4 to preview the next section on FRACTIONS: Comparing and Ordering Fractions.

The homework for the weekend will be to think of a practical way in which Math plays a part in your weekend.

The Chuckle for the Day: Mathematician:" There are three types of mathematicians, those who can count and those who can't." Hee Hee Hee....

Have a safe and restful long weekend.

Until TUESDAY,

Happy Thursday, burrrrr,

With today's abbreviated schedule due to the chorus concert, we will have shortened class time. We will review the LCM and GCF from the homework last night, and go over the POD!Got that?!

There will be no POD today nor any homework from the textbook, but you are expected to organize your binders. By Friday, they should be in very reasonable shape, organized by homework, tests, and projects by DATES. All papers should be securely fastened in the 3 rings( reinforcements are available here) and there should be nothing in the pockets. Only MATH papers should be included, so clean out any extra stuff. The binders need to pass a "SHAKE" test.

The Chuckle for the Day: What did one math book say to the other?
"Don't bother me, I've got my own problems!" Hee Hee Hee...

Stay tune to the radio or tv tomorrow morning as it has been reported to be another messy morning. If we do have a snow day, that will give us a 4 day weekend!!!! If not, we still have off on Monday as it is Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Always in Math,
Mrs. CM

TGIF,

Oh happy day. Today is Friday.

In math class we will be going over Chapter 3 ( from before the Christmas break) and making sure all is set with the data analysis as this is certainly worth reviewing. Also a check in to see if you did your homework with having your parent sign the test.

With the chapter 4 quiz taking longer than expected, we will review both PODs- from today and yesterday. And then off to do some review on classzone.com on FRACTIONS.

If you need to do the chapter 4 quiz, please come in during SSR time today.

The POD for today: MacKenzie is taking a 100 - problem multiple-choice math test. For every problem that she answers correctly, MacKenzie earns 2 points. For every problem that she answers incorrectly, she loses 1 point. If MacKenzie doesn't answer a problem, she neither earns nor loses points. If MacKenzie scores 182 on this test, use the table below to show the 4 possible ways that she could have earned 182 points.

Oh Happy Thursday to all,

Are you ready? Today is the day to strut your stuff and show me what you know about fractions so far. After the quiz, we will go over the POD and move on to another wonderful POD! I know how much you all LOVE these things!! Hopefully after some practice, these PODs will become far easier to endure. Hang in there.

Oh, I forgot to give out the December Homework Pass on the Muffin Morning in December, so that will be done as well. Another "oopies" - Chapter 3 test is still sitting on my desk and not in your hands! These need to go out as well. You need to make corrections( on a separate sheet of paper) and get a parent signature on it by tomorrow. This sounds like homework to me!

Part 2 of the homework: POD - Shannon downloaded 211 songs onto her computer. It took about 42 minutes to download all of these songs. Shannon said each song took an average of about 12 seconds to download. Is Shannon's estimation reasonable? Explain in detail.

Good Morning Good Morning Good Morning,

Today is the day - the 1/2 way through the week!!

In math class today we will continue on with our work on FRACTIONS. We will correct then discuss the homework from last night including the PROBLEM OF THE DAY. We need to make certain that the vocabulary terms are cemented in before there are more added, so we will be taking a small quiz tomorrow. This will cover the chapter 4.1-4.3 sections of the text, Prime and Composite Numbers, Prime Factorization, Factor Trees, Common Factors, Greatest Common Factors, Fractions, Numerators, Denominators, Equivalent Fractions, and Simplest Form. These are all some of the major components of understanding Fractions. Make sure you get all your questions you have answered in class, during tutorial, or early morning.

Good TUESDAY Morning,

After being out yesterday, today feels like Monday, so help me to remember the difference. Hope all went well yesterday with the sub. Seems like it did. As I was looking at the classwork, I am a bit confused so I will need to go over this with you folks today.

After a review of GCF, we will move onward to EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS. Fractions represent a part of a whole, and equivalent fractions are a way of writing fractions that are just that- Equal. We will review the terms: Numerators(top part of the fraction that represents the part we are talking about), Denominators(bottom part of the fraction that represent the total number of equal parts), Equivalent Fractions as well as Simplest Form( fractions that have a GCF of 1).

The classwork ( homework) for the day will be pages 171-172 # 2,3,6,8,10,12,14,18,23,25,27,34,37,39, 40-50.

Good Monday Morning,

I hope your weekend was packed with fun and activities and you all returned safely. I am out today as I am not feeling well, but as always, please be very respectful for the substitute. I am sure that you will as you always have done so in the past. I do plan on being here on Tuesday.

Please review the GCF. This is helpful in simplifying fractions where you find the largest shared factor of both the numerator and denominator. Please continue onward with this section of the text and do the first 2 problems of each section of the section review in this section of GCF's. I am not sure of the pages as I am home without the benefit of a book here, but I will call and clear up this assignment. But before you begin with the class work(homework if not completed), please discuss the Problem of the Day from Friday. What I would like to have covered is the vocabulary (inequalities), and the wordy way the problem is stated, and of course, the answer. There is no Problem of the Day for today, but this will resume upon my return.

If time allows in math class or tutorial, please continue on with classzone.com for chapter 4.

I will need 4 volunteers to help out with collecting the returnable bottles and cans at lunch in the cafe and outside the gym and office. Just drop off the bags of bottles inside the recycling cans and snap the lids on tightly and I will clean these up tomorrow. Please make this happen easily for the sub.

Also, in my absence, I do want your daily classroom jobs to be performed as if I was there. Thank you all in advance for being such great kids.

Until tomorrow,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

TGIF,
We made it - it's Friday. Oh happy day.

In math class today we will go over the homework on PRIME FACTORIZATION, PRIME and COMPOSITE numbers. After class discussion on this, we will move onto GREATEST COMMON FACTORS(GCF). The greatest common factor is just that - when there are at least 2 numbers, the GCF is the largest factor that is shared with both numbers. This will be used in fractions to simplify them. So guess what? This is all leading to working with fractions in the very near future.

Please work on the problem of the day . Copy the problem down, show all work and keep these in your math binders in the project section.

6,542,150 < ______________
Which of the following numbers, when inserted into the above inequality, would make the inequality true?
a. 6,134,955
b.6,467,760
c.6,691,045
d.6,373,225

There is no homework, but as always, work on classzone.com for Chapter 4 to practice and review instruction.

Have a great and safe weekend.

1-3-08

Good Thursday morning to all,

As you can see, I am not in class today, but I am in the building in a math meeting. I expect you to continue to do your best in my absence this morning for the substitute.

Today in math class we will correct the homework from yesterday covering PRIME and Composite Numbers, Prime Factorization, Factor Trees and the like on the pages 159-160. If at any point there remains any questions, feel free to ask for clarification.

I would like you to continue on with these math topics today and work on pages 159-161 #17,25,27,30,34,43,50,52,59,61,62,63,67 in class and finish up as homework. If time allows, go onto classzone and work on chapter 4 in the eworkbook or animations.

If you are the student who has not taken the Chapter 3 test on Data Analysis, I would like you to do so today during tutorial time with the sub. if at all possible.

Have a nice day and think about the math in your day that surrounds you.

1-2-08

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY. Again, I was expecting a day off or at least an hour delay, so I am a bit groggy from the long break, but none the less, it is nice to be back. Hope you all feel the same.

Getting back to math class, we reviewed Chapter 3 on Data Analysis with the focus on the different types of graphs: line graphs, bars graphs, stem and leaf plot graphs, box and whisker plot graphs, and histograms, and when do we use the particular graphs to organize information in a meaningful manner.

Then onward to Chapter 4 with an overview on FRACTIONS. Before we actually start fractions, we start off with today's lesson on PRIME and COMPOSITE NUMBERS. A prime number is a number that only has itself and 1 as factors(ex: 7 7 * 1) where a composite number has more factors than itself and 1(ex: 9 9*1 3*3 ). After a quick review of these two terms, we jumped right into Prime Factorization using factor trees and getting numbers down to the prime factors. Does this ring a bell from last year?

For classwork to be finished off as homework, we did page 159-161 # 8,9,16,17,19,26,28,29,32,35,53,58. As always, you must have a complete headings, write down the problems, show all work and then box in answers in a neat fashion on your paper. Add a comment to the top of the page on how you feel the work is. And before you go berserk, the work is fairly easy and more than anything, a review from last year. So thank your last year's teacher for doing a great job covering this objective.

FYI: Extra help is available early mornings, tutorial times, and after school.
